Hello and welcome, my lovelies! These Wicked Stories has officially launched *squeals with uncontainable excitement* and I am dancing with literal joy right now because I have been working on this blog for months. I wanted a small internet alcove to call my own — a place where I can scream passionately about my own writing, reading and storytelling. (I am a serious fangirl of basically anything and everything, so I am definitely not exaggerating when I say “screaming”. You probably know this already if you follow me on Twitter. Or if I have done some beta reading for you. Sorry, not sorry.)
I want to use my first post to introduce myself — so hello everyone! My name is Madeline, I am twenty-four and from Australia. I am an aspiring author, avid reader of young adult fantasy and science fiction, and a proud mama of three rescue kitties (yes, this is important for you to know — prepare for heaps of pictures of my little
terrors darlings). My auto-buy authors are Leigh Bardugo, Sarah J. Maas, Cassandra Clare, Holly Black, Julie C. Dao, V. E. Schwab, Jay Kristoff, Amanda Foody and Marissa Meyer — their books always ruin me in the best way possible and I am constantly screaming about them on Twitter. (And now you get to experience me here! Woot woot!)
I have always been a bookworm, but I knew that I wanted to someday become an author when I devoured City of Bones by Cassandra Clare in one day when I was fourteen. This book quite literally changed my life. It gave me a sense of direction, something to strive for and work towards. A sense of purpose in this world. I will forever be grateful for walking into that bookstore TEN YEARS AGO (oh my god that makes me feel old) and buying it. Not only did I become helplessly in love with Jace, but I also proclaimed to my parents that someday I would become an author. I’m still striving for that dream, working hard each and every day to write a book that I am proud of. Currently I’m working on a Young Adult Fantasy/Sci-Fi blend, and I’m beginning an intense rewrite TODAY. (Blog launch and beginning my rewrite? I’m a busy girl!)
Want to know more about me? I coordinate marketing and promotions at a national pet company. I have been a vegetarian for six years now. I majored in History and minored in English and Aboriginal Studies, I also have my Honours in History where I studied migrational patterns of convicts in Australia. I am getting married to the love of my life at the end of this year. My favourite television series include Game of Thrones, Umbrella Academy, Travelers, The Expanse, Star Trek, Stranger Things and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I am scared of birds. And my favourite thing to bake is red velvet cookies, but I’m sucker for anything chocolate.
So, why did I create These Wicked Stories? Well there was two reasons behind my madness. (1) I wanted a space on the internet to discuss my writing (including my processes and my goals), scream about all the amazing books that I am reading, and discuss all types of storytelling (I’m working on an Umbrella Academy post as well speak — anyone out there feeling incredibly lost after bingeing the first season cause SAME, I NEED SEASON TWO). (2) I also have a horrible habit of procrastinating my writing, and wanted to have a blog to “productively procrastinate”. Yes. I am that sort of person. I have no shame.
I hope to post two or three times per week with a mixture of blog posts coming up ranging from writing updates and discussions (probably the posts I am most excited for), book reviews, reading suggestions, analysis posts, and every month will have a monthly wrap-up post. (I’m also always up for suggestions on topics that you would like me to cover — whether their writing related, or book suggestions! Just leave me a comment or contact me via the “contact” page or even Twitter!)
I really, really hope that all you lovely writers and bibliophiles enjoy my little corner of the internet. I have been so excited to scream about this blog from the rooftops for what feels like literally forever and finally hit that damn publish button. So, here it is. These Wicked Stories.
Love to you all! (You can also follow me on Twitter.)
